Aylene Lievens is interested in the everyday, in 'normal' things, creating images that transcend the visible and sometimes rise into metaphor. A painter and photographer, she creates a layered reality, floating freely through time and space. She is fascinated by atmospheres and moods and by the ways in which photographs can emphasise and manipulate our perceptions of reality. Her ongoing Archive series records the fragmentation of everyday life and suggests different meanings by associating one image with another. It explores distance and intimacy, revealing and concealing simultaneously. Archive is an investigation into the power of suggestion through photography. Fit the puzzle pieces together, and enter a world that is both familiar and unexpected.
