It wasn’t until later in life that Bert Daenen decided to follow in the footsteps of his father, a portrait photographer. His oeuvre gives the power of silence a face, with portraits that invite viewers to pause – to look longer and more deeply, and to connect with their own inner worlds. When breathing slows and busy thoughts begin to fall silent, new layers reveal themselves. The images come to life in all their fragile vulnerability, becoming mirrors reflecting the soul. In a world that is a constant bombardment of noisy impressions and forceful messages, these portraits offer a welcome moment of peace. Bert’s first portrait series was featured at the cultural festival ‘Moment’ in the Basilica of Our Lady in Tongeren in 2019. Since then, his work has been exhibited at solo and group exhibitions in Belgium and abroad.
