By her own admission, her photography studies at Narafi involved a lot of trial and error, but Luana Masala is convinced that she has come out of it stronger – as a photographer, but also as a person. She started her career as a fashion photographer, but over the past year found tranquillity in making still lifes - not in the least because she can fully control that process. She typically makes a sketch of the image in her head first and uses that as inspiration to work out the final picture.
Luana Masala’s photographs are full of emotions she cannot otherwise express. She sees her work as an intimate diary in a language only she can decipher. Mind you, Masala allows others to ‘feel’ her photographs, which are much like baroque paintings, but without anyone ever being able to fully comprehend them. You could compare it to walking with your eyes open at the – however much Musala is inspired by light – darkest moment of the night.
